Joe Review 10-19-2003 by Mel
Country Party is a big afternoon of a ton of artists performing back to back. I really didn't think Joe WOULDN'T have a meet and greet with the show times being so close together, but read on. So we arrive and we see Joe's bus pulling in and try to get a glance of anyone getting off the bus, but with no luck. Anyway we wait in line til the open the gates, about a 2 hour wait but it passed quickly. We worked on more signs since I still had a magic marker in my bag and talked about who else but Joe. Anyway once we get into the gates and get our seats, we go to where Joe's table is with no one there yet but all the merchandise is out. The merch. guy(can't think of his name right now) said he'd be set up in awhile so to come back and that he'd try to get in touch with Jim. Well we wander around for awhile to go get food, bring our food back to my mom and then go back to the merch. table. He told us that they weren't going to have a meet and greet and we were upset to say the least. It was the 1 year anniversary of our first Joe concert and meet n greet yesterday so we thought destiny would be on our side. No luck and then the "monitor" guy for the band, didn't get his name, he's tall and kind of tanned and he's got dark black hair but it's shaved alot but you can tell that since it's growing in it's very black, y'all may know who I mean. He's not a fan of country but he likes Joe he said. He's not going to be at the Nov. 8th show though. He was cool and he got bonus points with me since he said Samantha aka Joe Baby was cute. Anyway he tried to get in touch with Jim with no contact because he didn't even know there wasn't a meet and greet. Anyway by this time we're still upset trying to go to all lengths to get people to get us in a meet n greet. Tried to talk to the radio people but couldn't get in touch with them cause they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Finally they start setting Joe's band up. Basically they put 4 bands equipment on one tiny stage and when it was your turn, you'd just go sit in front of your instruments. We see the monitor guy and he kind of sees us and then the band sees us(at this point we've made a sign on the back that said "2 Fan Club Members Want A Meet N Greet" it was worth a shot)
Some of the band members saw it and kind of laughed at us but they didn't tell anyone about it. Anyway Jim comes out and we're trying to get him to notice and I think he did but oh well. No meet n greet for us. Joe finally comes out, he was awesome even though you could tell he was exhausted/getting sick/sick or all of the above. He didn't even introduce the band which was shocking cause all the times I've seen him, he has done so, spending quite a bit of time on Brian. Anyway the show was awesome, he did the one new song, Revelation, the one by Waylon Jennings which was awesome even though he said it was deep. Proves he can pull off silly songs, fun songs and deep songs too. Finally the show is over with and we go back to the merch guy and still no meet n greet. He told us Jim had just told him to start dismantling the display so he was going to do that soon. It's close to 2pm at this time and I want to say they were probably gone by 2:30 or so, sometime before 3:15 cause we passed back by there and they were gone.
Kristi and I both bought the new long sleeved Cool To Be A Fool shirts and she got the magnet too. Kristi's an art student at Nicholls State University and had something for Joe. I should mention at this point that back in the summer when Country Weekly did the art contest in the issue with Faith Hill on the cover and Kristi's picture of the Dixie Chicks was published and was one of 3 featured on the CW website. Needless to say we're going to keep trying so she can personally deliver it to him.
